This second image shows a radar velocity image. The red colour shows water droplets moving away from the radar and the green shows droplets moving towards. The brighter the colour, the faster the droplets are moving. Where the colours are brightest in a close proximity this is known as a radar couplet. (See circled areas).

This first image shows a classic radar image of a tornadoes signature known as a Hook Echo. This image even shows the low preasure eye of the tornado.

This image shows the thunderstorm spectrum. It shows the differnt types of storms, their intensity and frequency.

In this section you will find information, photo descriptions and diagrams on how tornadoes form and how they are detected using modern day weather radar and computers.
